NEW ELECTION PROCESS FOR POWESHIEK COUNTY FAIRBOARD
In an effort to better inform the association members who is running for
election to the board prior to the annual meeting in November, as well
as to make it more convenient and increase voter participation the
current board of directors has elected to adopt the following election
procedures.
Anyone interested in running for a position on the board is encouraged
to fill out an application form giving some information about yourself
and why you want to become a member of the fair board. These forms are
available at the fair office or at poweshiekcountyfair.com. The form
needs to be mailed back along with your memberships dues of $2.00 to the
fair office by September 1st. (All other membership dues must be paid by
September 30th). If there are not enough applications returned to the
office, the board will appoint a nominating committee of association
members to find enough candidates to fill the needed number of seats
available for election. NO nominations will be taken from the floor the
night of the meeting.
After September 1st, we will mail out to all current association members
a summary of all the applicants and their resumes including a photo if
available so you can become better acquainted with the people who are
running for a seat on the board. You will also receive a ballot with
this mailing that you will have the opportunity to mail back to the fair
office prior to the annual meeting, or you may present it when you
register at the night of the meeting. There will not be any ballots
handed out at the meeting. The ballots that are mailed back before the
meeting will be checked off the list of current association members and
remain sealed until all the ballots are ready to be counted by the
county attorney or another third party. Any ballots that are mailed back
and do NOT have a return address for verification purposes, will not be
counted.
